Can Dogs and Cats Eat Cranberries?

Whether you're enjoying cranberries on their own or getting creative in the kitchen, you may end up wondering "Can my dog eat cranberries?" or "Can my cat eat cranberries?"

We're here to set the record straight and share about the natural health benefits of cranberries for dogs and cats!

What are cranberries?

Chances are that you already know what a cranberry is. You've probably had it in some shape or form, whether it was during a holiday, as a healthy snack, or even as a juice. Aside from their delicious taste, what else is there to them?

Cranberries are native to North America, most often found in the Northern part of the US. They're one of only three native fruits that are commercially grown! The first people to use cranberries were Native Americans, who used them not only for food but for medicine and fabric dye as well.

Are cranberries good for pets?

Yes, they are!

Cranberries are a natural source of vitamins C, E, and K. They also contain manganese, copper, potassium, iron, and magnesium.

Additionally, cranberries are often utilized for their healthy urinary support benefits and may also provide anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer benefits.

But the health benefit that cranberries are best known for is their high antioxidant content! The antioxidant levels come partly from proanthocyanidins, which are responsible for their vibrant color.

As with any human food, feeding cranberries in moderation is key.

Can pets eat cranberries raw?

It is not advised to feed your pet raw cranberries. Some pet owners prefer to use cranberry supplements in the form of tablets or chews.

One of the easiest ways to give your pet cranberries is by feeding them food, chews, or treats that include cranberries as an ingredient!
